Mandalorians…known in Mando’a as the Mando’ade, or “Children of Mandalore” are driven by some odd sense of honor and warrior code, these mercs and hunters perform their violent job with neat and thorough proficiency.
“Here’s why you can’t exterminate us, aruetii. We’re not huddled in one place—we span the galaxy. We need no lords or leaders—so you can’t destroy our command. We can live without technology—so we can fight with our bare hands. We have no species or bloodline—so we can rebuild our ranks with others who want to join us. We’re more than just a people or an army, aruetii. We’re a culture. We’re an idea. And you can’t kill ideas—but we can certainly kill you.”
―Mandalore the Destroyer
“You are not a good man…”
“No, but I am not a bad one either. That should count for something.”
―Nyreen Vollen to Mace Skirata broaching the subject of how to fight the Empire in light of Mandalore (the planet) being occupied.
Mace Skirata is one of the many sons of legendary Kal Skirata and took after his father in many ways… growing up on Kamino, he was taught to respect the Mando culture, history, and personal code of honor: A man always keeps his word and those that don’t are not worth a damn. Suicide is a cowards choice and never an option. True loyalty cannot be bought, but is more valuable than Beskar ore.
By the time of adulthood he had walked away from the Clone Wars, preferring to choose what he could do, who he could help, and choosing the goals he wished to attain. He respected Jango Fett’s practical views, and admired his fathers almost fanatical determination. While he personally favored a balance between the two. Having an unprecedented amount of knowledge on the inner workings of the war, he decided to focus on what he could control… Mace is a quiet, introspective individual with strong beliefs, and formidable temperament. (If he believed in betting, he would be an excellent poker player…)
His ingrained sense of opposing authority by default and strongly held personal views caused some inner turmoil in finding suitable employment in a galaxy dominated by a monolithic Empire. (Especially after they put his planet under subjugation) and this led him on a Wanderlust in the Outer Rim…
Taking choice jobs in Hutt Space he happened upon a Junior Senator engaged in some version of cloak and dagger espionage against the Empire when he finished a job on Tatooine. Realizing (after a time) the Senator goal was in some way, set against the Empire he decided to stay on and help protect the Senator and his group of “rebels” in their common cause. Slowly over time, he began developing a bond with the Senator that led to real friendship and an honest respect for others in the crew.
Mace wears black Mando armor, with gold outlines to honor his fathers clan. The gold represents revenge.
